Same engine as the general Background Remover
This page and Background Remover run the identical model (BRIA RMBG) — there is no separate "portrait mode." What matters here is where a general-purpose cutout model is tested hardest: fine hair strands, glasses frames, and earrings, where a single pass over the image has to draw a clean line through detail that thin.
What to check before you download
On a plain, high-contrast background the result is usually clean. On flyaway hair against a similarly toned backdrop, or a wisp of hair over the edge of a shoulder, look closely at the edge before you commit — a faint fringe can survive there. If it does, re-shooting against a plainer background gives the model a cleaner line to find, more reliably than any post-processing.
Picking the output
Transparent PNG is right for compositing onto a new scene or a design template. For a passport-style or professional headshot, the white preset gives a flat, even backdrop without leaving the browser — the same one-click swap the full desktop app uses.

Will it work on hair and fine details?
Usually, but check the edge before downloading. Very fine flyaway hair against a similar-toned background is the hardest case for any single-pass model, this one included.
Are portraits uploaded to a server?
No. Processing runs in your browser — your photos stay on your device.
What formats are supported?
JPG, PNG, and WebP up to 25 MB, up to 15 at once in the batch.
Is this a different AI model than the regular Background Remover?
No — same model. The three landing pages exist for the use case, not a different engine.
