What Portrait Background Remover can do
What to check before you download
This page runs the same model as Background Remover; there is no portrait mode. On a plain backdrop that contrasts with the hair, the edge is usually clean. Flyaway hair against a similar color, glasses frames and earrings are where a faint fringe survives, so look there before you download. The cutout is computed at up to 768 pixels on the long side and scaled back up, so a large portrait comes back softer than the original. If the fringe shows, a new photo against a plainer wall helps more than any retouching.
Picking the backdrop
Keep it transparent to place the person on a new scene or template. White, Grey and Sky blue give a plain backdrop for a CV or ID-style headshot, and Blur keeps your own room, softened, like a phone’s portrait mode. This page does not crop to passport sizes, so check what your form asks for.

Will it work on hair and fine details?
Usually, but check the edge before downloading. Very fine flyaway hair against a similar-toned background is the hardest case for any single-pass model, this one included.
Are portraits uploaded to a server?
No. The portrait is processed in this browser tab and is gone when you close it, unless you open it in the desktop app, which keeps it in Files on this device.
What formats are supported?
JPG, PNG or WebP up to 25 MB. Portraits shot on an iPhone are often HEIC, which this page cannot open; convert them on HEIC to JPG first.
