Built for a limit you have to hit
A bio that has to fit 150. A meta description that gets cut at 160. An SMS that quietly becomes two. The table under the box counts down for each one while you edit, so you find out before you paste, not after.
Counts an emoji as one character
Most counters use the browser’s raw string length, where 👍 counts as two and a flag as four — the number looks fine and the platform still truncates you. This counts what a person counts.
Keep the text you were writing
Open the free desktop and the text moves into Notes, which keeps its own word count and reading time next to the editor. Notes live on your device, so a draft you were counting stays a draft.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The counting happens in your browser, on this device — the text is never sent to a server, and we never see it.
Does it count characters with or without spaces?
Both, side by side. Spaces count toward almost every platform limit, so the with-spaces number is the one to check against a bio or a post.
How are emoji counted?
As one character each, the way a reader would count them. Note that some platforms count them differently internally, so treat a text that lands exactly on the limit as risky.
Is there a character limit on what I can paste?
No limit — a whole article pastes fine. The count updates as you type, so long texts stay responsive.
