What Character Counter can do
Ten limits, counted down as you type
For a bio that has to fit 150, a post that has to fit 280 and a meta description Google trims near 160, the table under the box counts down each limit while you edit. One SMS is listed at 70, not 160: a single character outside the basic GSM alphabet (Cyrillic, an accented letter such as á or ê, a curly quote, any emoji) switches the whole message to the 70-character format.
Counts an emoji as one character
Most counters use the browser’s raw string length, where 👍 counts as two and a flag as four. The number looks fine and the platform still truncates you. This counts what a person counts.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. It counts in this tab: the text is not sent anywhere, and it is gone when you close the page.
Does it count characters with or without spaces?
Both, side by side. Spaces count toward almost every platform limit, so the with-spaces number is the one to check against a bio or a post.
How are emoji counted?
As one character each: a flag, a thumbs-up with a skin tone and a family emoji all count as one. Some platforms, X among them, count an emoji as two, so treat a post that lands exactly on the limit as risky.
Is there a character limit on what I can paste?
No limit for pasting. A whole book works. Past 20,000 characters the count waits for a pause in your typing so the box stays responsive, and a .txt, .md, .csv or .srt file dropped on the page loads up to 2 MB.
