What Internet Check can do

What it measures

Response time: how long a tiny request to the server that hosts nopa’s pages takes, timed five times (three with data saver on). Download speed: how fast a test file from the same server arrives over about a second. Stability: how much those response times vary and whether any request failed. The result turns these into one verdict and a line each for websites, video, calls, games and large downloads.

If your internet feels slow

Move closer to your router, close extra tabs and downloads, try another network, or restart your router. Sometimes the problem is a busy network, not your plan.

Limits of this check

This is a quick check, not a lab-grade test. One run downloads up to 25 MB, less on a slow line or with data saver on, so mind a capped mobile plan.

Questions

Why is the result different from other speed tests?

This check downloads from the same server that hosts nopa’s pages, in one stream, for about a second. Dedicated speed test apps pick a test server close to you and open several connections at once, so on a fast line they usually read higher. Response time here is a full web request rather than a bare network ping, so it can read higher than the ping those apps show.

Is upload speed measured?

No. Measuring upload needs a server that takes in the data, and nopa does not run one; this check only downloads.
