What Compress Image to 500 KB can do

When 500 KB is the right target

Email attachments, marketplace listings and document scans are comfortable with half a megabyte; strict application forms often ask for 200 KB or less. At this size a typical phone photo keeps good detail: faces and text stay readable.

Quality first, then size

The tool starts from the highest quality and only reduces it until the file fits under 500 KB, down to 40% if it must. A 12-megapixel phone photo usually needs more than that: it is also scaled down, to 2,048 or 2,560 px wide, and the result line says so and shows the new width.

Need it smaller?

Switch to the 200 KB target for stricter forms, or use the Quality option to set the balance yourself. The original file on your device is never changed.

Questions

Is 500 KB small enough for email?

Yes. Even a dozen photos at 500 KB fit a typical attachment limit. If a form asks for less, use the 200 KB target.

Will faces and text stay sharp?

On screen, usually yes. Very large photos and panoramas have the most pixels to fit into 500 KB and lose the most, so check faces and text in the preview before downloading.
