What Crop Image can do

A frame you drag, or a shape you pick

Drag a corner to cut two edges at once, an edge to cut one, or the middle to move the frame. The chips fix the shape: free, the photo’s own proportions, a square, 4:5 for a feed post, 3:4, or 9:16 for a story. The arrow chip turns any of them on its side, so 9:16 becomes 16:9 for a cover. A photo taken sideways turns a quarter left or right on the same page, and the frame turns with it.

Every pixel inside the frame, at full size

The crop is cut from the original photo, not from the picture on screen: a square taken from a 4000 × 3000 camera photo comes out 3000 × 3000. Nothing is scaled down unless you ask: Resize Image does that, and the compressor takes a photo under a size limit in KB. The one exception is a crop bigger than the browser can draw, about 16.7 megapixels on an iPhone; it is made smaller, and the page says so.

What the saved file is

A JPG stays a JPG and a PNG a PNG. An iPhone HEIC comes back as JPG, and so does a WebP in Safari, which cannot write WebP. A JPG is saved again at 90% quality: the photo looks the same and the file stays photo-sized. Redrawing the picture also leaves out its metadata, so the download carries no capture date, camera model or GPS position.

Questions

Does my photo get uploaded?

No. It is opened, cropped and saved in this browser tab, and nothing is sent anywhere.

How do I crop to an exact size, like 1080 × 1080?

Pick 1:1 so the frame is square and place it. The crop keeps the photo’s own pixels, so set 1080 next: open the full editor, which has the crop and the size side by side, or Resize Image.

Is the original photo changed?

No. The download is a new file with “-edited” in its name; the photo you chose stays as it was.
