Resize an image

Choose a photo, pick 75, 50 or 25 percent or type the width or height you need, and download.

  1. Choose your photoPick a JPG, PNG, WebP or iPhone HEIC photo. It opens in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
  2. Pick the sizeChoose a percentage, or type the width or the height in pixels, and the other side follows.
  3. Download itThe new size in pixels is shown before you save, and the photo is scaled down in steps so it stays sharp.

What Resize Image can do

A percentage, or one side in pixels

The chips shrink the photo to three quarters, half or a quarter of its size. To hit a number a form or a website asks for, type it into the width or height field: the other side follows the photo’s proportions, so nothing comes out stretched. The line under the photo shows the size of the file you will get.

Pixels or kilobytes?

This page changes how many pixels the photo has. If a form wants a file under 200 KB, that is a different job: Compress Image to 200 KB finds the size and quality that fit. The two often go together: resize to the width the site shows, then compress.

Smaller comes out smooth; bigger adds no detail

Big reductions are made in halving steps rather than in one jump, so fine patterns (fabric, a fence, small text) come out smooth instead of jagged. You can type a size bigger than the original too: the file gets more pixels, but nothing that was not in the photo, and the page says so. The longest side can be 16,384 pixels; an iPhone browser draws at most about 16.7 megapixels and makes a bigger result smaller.

Questions

How do I resize to exactly 1080 × 1080?

If the photo is already square, type 1080 into either field. If it is not, crop it to 1:1 first on Crop Image, then set 1080. Or do both in the full editor, where the crop and the size sit side by side.

Does resizing make the file smaller in KB?

Usually, because fewer pixels take fewer bytes, but not to a number you choose. For a hard limit like 100 KB or 1 MB, use the compressor.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. It is resized in this browser tab and never leaves your device.
