What Convert JPG to PNG can do

How to use

Choose a JPG — the output is fixed to PNG, so there is nothing to configure. PNG has no quality setting at all: every pixel is written out exactly as the decoder produced it, which is why the slider you see on the JPG and WebP pages is missing here. Convert, then download or open the result in nopa.

When to choose this format

PNG is lossless and supports transparency — useful for graphics and screenshots.

The PNG gets bigger, not sharper

Expect the file to grow — often three to ten times for a photo. JPG threw detail away to get small; PNG stores whatever it is handed without throwing anything away. What it cannot do is put back what JPG already discarded: if the source has visible blocking around edges, the PNG preserves that blocking perfectly. Convert to PNG to stop losing quality from here on, not to recover it.

What PNG buys you

Nothing refuses a PNG — it has been the safe universal image since the 1990s, and editors, chat apps, documents, print shops and upload forms all take it. The real reason to convert is what happens next: PNG survives being re-saved indefinitely without degrading, so it is the right working copy when an image will be cropped, edited and saved several more times, or when you plan to cut a transparent background into it later.

Limitations

PNG files are often larger than JPG. Very large photos may take longer on mobile.

Questions

Will my JPG become transparent?

No — JPG has no transparency, so the PNG keeps the same solid background. PNG only preserves transparency that already exists in the source.

Is there any point converting several JPGs at once?

Up to 30 JPGs in one run here, zipped together. Every output is a full-size PNG, so thirty photos add up to hundreds of megabytes — worth watching the total before you start it.

Which formats are supported?

This page converts JPG to PNG. Other pairs — JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, SVG — each have their own tool, gathered in the related tools on this page.
