What Rotate Video can do

A turn in the file, the way phones do it

A phone writes into every video which way up to show it. This page changes exactly that note and copies the picture as it is, so the turn takes a moment even for a long video and costs no quality. Phones and players that show phone videos upright show this one upright too; a few old desktop programs ignore the note and play the video as it was filmed.

Left or right, a quarter at a time

Each tap turns the video a quarter, and the preview shows how it will play. Mirroring a video or straightening it by a few degrees would mean re-encoding every frame, which this page does not do.

What you get

An MP4, MOV or MKV comes back as MP4, with the sound untouched. A WebM has no place to store a turn, so the page says so instead of re-encoding it. Nothing is uploaded: the video is turned in this browser tab.

Questions

Why does my video play sideways?

The phone recorded which way up it was held and got it wrong, usually because it lay flat when you started filming. Turning it here rewrites that note.

Does rotating lose quality?

No. Only the note in the file changes; the picture and sound are copied as they are.

Is my video uploaded?

No. Everything happens in this browser tab, and the video never leaves your device.
