Two ways in: @username or phone number

A username becomes t.me/yourname — the leading @ is optional, and Telegram’s own rule applies: 5 to 32 characters, letters, digits, and underscores only, which is why a four-letter handle is rejected here rather than encoded into a dead link. A phone number becomes t.me/+digits instead, useful for a personal account that never claimed a public username.

Private channels need their invite link

A channel or group only lives at t.me/name once it has a public username. Private ones are reached through an invite link that looks like t.me/+AbCdEf… — paste that whole link into the plain QR generator and you get a working code. Remember that an invite link can be revoked in Telegram, and every printed copy dies with it.

What the optional message does — and does not do

The text is appended as a ?text= parameter, URL-encoded. Whether Telegram drops it into the message box depends on the client and on what kind of account you linked, so treat it as a convenience for the person scanning, not as data you will reliably receive. Nothing here counts scans either: the code is a static image with no redirect in between.

Questions

Username or phone?

Both work — @mychannel for public usernames, or +country code for phone-linked accounts.

Why does it say my username is invalid?

Telegram usernames run 5 to 32 characters and allow only letters, digits, and underscores. Anything shorter, or with a dot or dash in it, is not a real handle — check the spelling in Telegram and copy it exactly.

Can I make a QR for a private channel?

Not from a name — a private channel has no public address. Copy its invite link from Telegram and turn that link into a code on the plain QR generator page.

Can I style the QR code?

Yes — continue in the desktop for colors, dot styles, a logo overlay, and saving to Files.
