What Convert WebP to JPG can do

How to use

Choose a WebP. The output is JPG with a quality slider at 92%. WebP can carry transparency and JPG cannot, so transparent areas are painted white here rather than coming out black; the desktop is where you choose a different colour.

Roughly the same size, sometimes larger

Do not expect a saving. WebP is the more efficient of the two formats, so a JPG at comparable quality usually lands about the same size or somewhat bigger; the line under the result shows both sizes. Both are lossy, so this is one more generation of loss: small at 92%, but not zero. Convert for compatibility; if size is the problem, the image compressor can save the WebP as a JPG under 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB or 1 MB.

Why a picture saved from a website is a WebP

Many sites serve their images as WebP, so ‘Save image as’ hands you a .webp even when the page seemed to show a JPG. Browsers open it; plenty of upload forms, older photo apps and print kiosks do not. Converting gives you the JPG those places expect.

Limitations

Transparency is not preserved in JPG.

What happens to transparency?
