What Add Page Numbers can do
Three positions, two formats
Numbers go bottom center by default (where most reports and contracts carry them), or bottom right, or top right. The format is a plain "1" or "1 / 12" with the page count. A preview of page 1 shows the number in place before you press Add page numbers, and every page gets the same spot.
Exactly what lands on the page
The number is set in 11 pt Helvetica, dark grey rather than black so it reads as furniture instead of content, and sits 28 pt (roughly a centimetre) from the edge; in the default position that is above the bottom edge, centered across the width. That is deliberately the same place a printer expects a folio, so a numbered file goes straight into a binder or a staple without anything falling in the gutter.
Numbering runs straight from 1 to N
Every page in the file is counted, starting at 1 on the very first one. There is no way to skip a cover, start counting at 3, or switch the front matter to roman numerals. If your document opens with a title page you would rather leave clean, split it off first, number the rest, and merge the two back together.
Watch the last page for collisions
The number is drawn on top of the existing page, not woven into it, and the bottom center is where plenty of documents already carry a footer, a confidentiality line, or a page number from whatever produced them. The preview shows page 1; scroll through the result before sending it, and if the number lands on something, pick Top right or Bottom right and run it again on the original.

Where do the numbers appear?
Where you choose: bottom center (the default), bottom right, or top right, in the same spot on every page.
Is the download really free?
Yes. No account, no trial and no watermark of ours on the file: it is made in your browser, and you can save it as many times as you like.
Can I show "1 of 10"?
As "1 / 10": pick that format and the second number is the page count of your file. The word "of" itself is not available.
Can I skip the cover page or start at another number?
No. Numbering always begins at 1 on the first page of the file. The workaround is to extract the cover, number the remaining pages, and merge the two documents again.
Are my PDFs uploaded?
No. The numbers are stamped in this tab, and the numbered copy goes straight to your downloads.
